Meet Dr. Jacob: Scarsdale’s Expert in Compassionate Dental Care

At Scarsdale Dental Center, we’re thrilled to introduce you to Dr. Teresa Jacob, a seasoned general dentist who brings compassion, dedication, and a wealth of experience to our practice. We sat down with Dr. Jacob to learn more about her journey, professional philosophy, and what makes her passionate about providing exceptional dental care.

  1. What inspired you to pursue a career in dentistry?

Growing up, my mom was a nurse – she worked nights for most of my childhood and I had many family members in the medical field. I always knew I wanted to pursue a similar career path that would allow me to give back & serve my community on a daily basis while also allowing the flexibility to meet my family’s needs. I’m a people person, so I loved the idea of treating patients regularly, learning about their lives, and being their provider for years to come. I think that’s why I love seeing patients of all ages.

  1. With over 15 years of experience, what are some of the most significant changes you’ve seen in the field of dentistry?

Dentistry is evolving so quickly, especially with 3D scanning and digital workflow. We are able to show patients digitally what their new smile can look like or even show changes in their teeth from visit to visit. Our technology allows patients to see what we see and really enhances my ability to educate patients.

  1. You’ve worked in community health centers treating underserved communities. How has this experience shaped your perspective on dental care?

It has helped me realize that no matter our place in life, we all want the same things. We want to feel respected, listened to, cared for, to be seen and treated as a human being. So that’s what I try to do, treat every patient with kindness, compassion, and understanding.

  1. What aspects of treating both kids and adults do you enjoy the most?

I love the variety in connection & conversation! I can go from talking about Paw Patrol to talking about my favorite food destinations. We treat kids ages 5 and above.

  1. You emphasize individualized care and building long-lasting relationships with your patients. How do you achieve this in your daily practice?

It all starts with building trust,  educating, and collaborating with patients while providing them with treatment options that work best for their individual needs.

  1. What motivated you to move back to New York, and how does it feel to be practicing in your home state again?

I was really starting to get homesick, especially after having my second child, and was missing a sense of community. My whole family is here and they are the backbone of my support system. It’s pretty surreal to be living and working in Westchester again.

  1. What do you enjoy most about being a part of Scarsdale Dental Center?

I love the sense of community. We all really care about one another as individuals with families and lives outside of work. Each day, we work together with a lot of positivity and teamwork. No one person is more important than the other in this office. We are all vital to the operation and we respect each other as such.

  1. Reflecting on your anniversary of joining our practice, what have been some of the highlights and memorable moments for you?

Moving back to NY and feeling right at home. Every single patient I’ve spoken to has said, “Welcome home,” and that’s exactly how this office feels. The patients have been so welcoming and kind. Dr. Suh and his team are wonderful, we all work really well together. I look forward to coming to work every morning! One of the most memorable moments was meeting a patient, whose father owned the Carvel ice cream shop that I went to my entire childhood. It’s connections like these that make me feel right at home.

  1. What do you appreciate most about the collaborative environment within our practice?

We all enjoy working together and everyone is on board with the practice mission: “provide the highest level of care while maintaining professionalism.”

  1. Outside of dentistry, how have you been spending your time? Any new hobbies or interests you’ve discovered?

I’ve been catching up on lots of family time and reconnecting with friends in the tri-state area. I’ve been going into the city a lot – I really missed it! It’s also been fun rediscovering Westchester since I haven’t lived here in over 20 years! My kids and I have explored lots of restaurants, playgrounds, outdoor events, farmers markets, and county parks.
